There are few sounds in jazz more appealing than that of a big fat unit comprising around 17 musicians, well drilled, swinging, and with star solo improvisations on top. The 46th Hot Box celebrates some of those sounds with a mix of familiar and unfamiliar, including The New Irish Jazz Orchestra, whose formerly unpublished pieces from live concert performance are featured here. Also sit back and enjoy two wonderful tracks from Fred Hersch’s brand new album - a significant departure for him - with the WDR Big Band under the direction of the multi-award winning arranger Vince Mendoza.
On this episode of Jazz Mine you can hear tracks from artists such as Fred Hersch with The WDR Big Band, Edel Meade, Incognito, Ronny Jordan, Wes Montgomery and more..........Saturdays 5PM on dublincityfm.ie

This radio documentary tells the story of P.J.Duffy a well-known musician and publican from Ballina, Co. Mayo, who now has retired from his business but who will be fondly remembered for the now legendary weekly "Tuesday Night JAZZ-Sessions, which took place in his pub for more than 30 years and which became an attraction for many music lovers, Jazz cats, tourists and occasional drop-ins from near and far. Those sessions were exceptional and unique in the area and developed to a charming and enchanting event, which shouldn't be forgotten.
I had so much fun sitting down with Julien Colarossi last week. Chatting about music, learning by ear, him moving to Ireland and the experiences he made. And of course a little bit of playing at the end. Julien is a fantastic guitarist, fully in touch with the tradition of Jazz and forming it into his own sound on the guitar.
It´s a lovely episode and I hope you enjoy it! Thanks for taking the time!
