Tales from the far Side 03.11.22. Memories of Summer as the longer nights draw in

On this edition I play some jazz with the theme of carrying memories of the summer as our longer nights draw in with music by Mildred Bailey, Ben Wendel, Sarah Vaughan, Oscar Peterson, Trevor Watkis, Dizzy Reece and others

The Hot Box #089 – All New Recordings

Tracks this time are exclusively (well almost) from brand shiny new albums. The exception sadly is another of those remembrance pieces, this time for the singer Tina May who died earlier this year.

Tales from the far Side 20.10.22 Westport Jazz

On this edition you can hear some of the artists who played some gigs initiated by Westport Jazz, a small but brave initiative with the aim to bring high-class Jazz to the West of Ireland, to our domicile the Clew Bay Hotel in Westport Town and you can hear the music of the John Donegan Irish Sextet, Kevin Brady's Electric Quartet, the RBG Trio (Redmond/Brady/Gillard Trio) the Phil Robson/Jed Levy Quartet and a track by the late and very much missed Ger McNally and his Trio

The Hot Box 088 - All New Material

In the 87th Hot Box we scratched the surface of the hot topic of females in jazz, and now we to try to go a little deeper, so the 88th picks out some more women whose contribution to jazz has been stellar. And then we take a listen to an extract from the famous Piano Jazz series presented by Marian McPartland, in the studio with her friend, the legendary Mary Lou Williams.

We’re still only scratching the surface, or as one of our chosen songs says, Scratchin’ in the Gravel!
