Galway Jazz Festival 2018 - The Best Of Irish

Galway Jazz Festival is delighted to present some of Ireland's finest jazz musicians at this year's festival.

Tommy Halferty, world renowned guitarist, composer, and literature lover, will perform his own suite, for nine players, inspired by the works of Albert Camus. Capable of high octane improvisation as well as soulful lyricism, Tommy will play two other gigs during the festival.

The first Irish musician to introduce Cuban jazz to Ireland, Conor Guilfoyle, brings his new octet, with eight of the hardest swinging, fastest rising young players in the country. They play in Biteclub, where tour ticket includes brunch and prosecco!

The music of Weather Report has inspired phenomenal Irish bassist, (and Galway boy) Barry Donoghue, to re-create these masterpieces with his band, Plaza Real.

Shy Mascot, also headed by young Galway legend, Eanna Ryder, bring their jazz-inflected funk and hip-hop to the mix, driven by the unapologetic and dynamic rapper, Jamal.

Jim Doherty ( piano ), and Dave Fleming (bass), two of the elder statesmen of  the groundbreaking Irish jazz scene of the 70s and 80s, the  gentlemen are without equal in the world of good old fashioned duo playing. Our total privilege to have them visit.

And loads more home grown talent – crooner Cormac Kenevy, Koko Ensemble, Flo McSweeney, Myles Drennan, Nick Roth...the list is large and impressive.
