New Album Release “Colours” from Ksenia Parkhatskaya

World-renowned Russian dancer Ksenia Parkhatskaya and Irish double bassist David Duffy have co-written a full-length original album, Colours to be released on Jazzville records, Oct 3rd.

Back in 2020, world-renowned Russian dancer, Ksenia Parkhatskaya released Rose and Blue, a jazz-infused song accompanied by a beautifully animated video which went on to win a host of filmmaking awards, also being nominated for best music video at La Jolla (LA), and PAMA (Paris)

She looks to solidify her reputation as a jazz singer (think Melody Gardot meets Stacy Kent meets Katie Melua...) this autumn with a full-length original album, Colours, released on Jazzville records, Oct 3rd

Along with husband, bassist, co writer and co-producer David Duffy, the recording brings together an international cast of musicians in a vintage studio in Barcelona and stretches far beyond jazz into the realms of the cinematic, as you can hear here:

Ksenia Parkhatskaya is a world-renowned dancer who’s worked with artists and projects as diverse as Postmodern Jukebox, the Paris Opera Orchestra and Christian McBride.

But despite having over 250 million video views and a campaign as the ‘face’ of Italy’s largest phone company, TIM, she turns her attention now to her life-long passion as a singer.

Her sombre, rich vocals draw comparisons to Melody Gardot, Stacy Kent and Katie Melua, but her songwriting, with husband and bassist David Duffy, stretches far beyond jazz into the realms of the cinematic.

Following on from the award-winning 2020 single Rose and Blue, released in collaboration with German animators Julie Boehm & Marc Zimmerman, she presents her full-length debut Colours this October.

Born in Russia and based in Barcelona where the album was recorded, Ksenia and co-producer Duffy bring together a classy line up of European musicians to deliver the songs which run from tender and melancholic, to upbeat and joyous.

“Some songs paint a deep blue haunting loneliness, red inner turmoil or grey melancholy. Others paint a golden dawn full of hope and youth, a purple milky way where all things intertwine and connect, a green endless ocean of the eyes of a loved one.”

Untethered to genre or style and given free-range of the vintage equipment at Vertigo Studios, the pair create rich, emotive music that lives in it’s own unique space.
