Established in 2022, Irish Women in Jazz is dedicated to showcasing and supporting female jazz artists in Ireland. This musician-run initiative not only nurtures a growing community of artists and enthusiasts but also offers platforms like this live podcast and gig series to highlight extraordinary talent. Since 2024, they've been proudly supported by The Arts Council, furthering their mission to elevate women's voices in jazz.

Event Highlights

The evening kicks off at 6:30 PM with a Samba de Gafieira dance class, led by the talented William Ribeiro from Samba.ie. This dance class is a fantastic opportunity to immerse yourself in the lively and rhythmic world of Brazilian dance, and with limited tickets available, it's an experience you won’t want to miss!

Doors open at 8:00 PM, with the main program starting at 8:15 PM with a live podcast hosted by Irish Women in Jazz founder, Jennifer McMahon. She will chat with Luisa Annibali about her journey, current projects, and the exciting evolution of her music.

At 9:00 PM, the concert begins, featuring Luisa Annibali and her ensemble. The evening will take you on a journey through the rich tapestry of Brazilian music, exploring genres from Choro to Bossa Nova. The concert is designed to both educate and entertain, showcasing classic pieces and modern interpretations from iconic Brazilian artists like Pixinguinha, Paulinho da Viola, and Tom Jobim, as well as Italian singer Ornella Vanoni's unique collaboration with Brazilian music.

The stellar lineup includes:

  • Hayley Kavanagh on saxophone and flute
  • Julio Batista on 7-string guitar
  • William Ribeiro on percussion
