CULTURE NIGHT 2024 - "Jazz Italiano: Classic Songs Reimagined” concert by trio "Dolce Vita, in Jazz"

A celebration of Italy's most iconic songs, transformed by the improvisational spirit of jazz. As we journey through heartfelt ballads and lively anthems from legendary artists like Mina, Ornella Vanoni, and Fiorella Mannoia, you'll experience familiar melodies in a new, exhilarating light.

IIC participates to Culture Night as part of the EUNIC cluster Dublin and adheres to the "European Culture Trail" initiative. For those visiting European Culture Trail events in person, you can take your “European Culture Trail Passport” (copies available at the IIC) and collect stamps or signatures at each stop. Those passports with the most stamps at the end of the night will be entered into a raffle for the chance to win some wonderful prizes.

BIO OF THE ARTISTS

Pianist and singer Annalisa Monticelli is a highly sought-after musician, having performed internationally as a soloist, with ensembles and orchestras. Her passion for music started at a very young age, and she has dedicated her life to mastering various musical genres. She studied classical and jazz piano, voice, conducting, musicology, chamber music, composition and music education in Italy, Argentina, and the USA.

She moved to Ireland to work as a collaborative pianist for the Royal Irish Academy of Music, where she later became Italian and vocal coach. In 2015 she became Asst. Lecturer-Repetiteur at Dundalk Institute of Technology, where she currently serves as Lecturer and Program Director for the Musical Theatre programme.

Since her arrival to Ireland, she has appeared in all major Irish venues, has collaborated with INO as Italian Coach and has released several CDs. In recent years she performed and taught opera, diction, chamber music, piano, Irish art song and improvisation masterclasses/workshops in Spain, Italy, Portugal, England, Scotland, Switzerland, Poland, France, Malaysia, and the USA.

Annalisa is Pianist, Musical Director, and co-arranger for the Ensemble Amarcord, currently performing ’The Morricone Experience’- a successful production touring across Ireland. She is also pianist for the Irish-Latin band Baile an Salsa since 2018 and co-founder, pianist and singer for the Dublin-based Hibertango quintet. She is an eclectic musician, with twenty years of experience coaching and performing Chamber music and Opera, alongside Tango, Jazz and Latin-American Music; both as a pianist and a singer.

Derek Whyte is currently a lectur on the Jazz and Contemporary music course in Dublin City University. He has been teaching ensembles, rhythm, transcription and instrumental skills in many different music schools for over 15 years and during this time he has been heavily involved in the Dublin Jazz scene as a performer. He has played consistently with many of the leading jazz musicians all over the country and has more recently been playing in some of the U.K’s more recognised Jazz Venues. Derek is also involved in many of the Dublin Jazz scene's more experimental Jazz groups, many of which experiment extensively with unconventional approaches to Rhythm and Harmony. These groups include The Mike Nielsen Quartet, Electric Freeplay, Redivider and The Fuzzy Logic Ensemble. In more recent years, Derek has also begun orchestral playing with the Dublin Orchestral players.

Orlando Molina: Guitarist, Composer & Solo Artist with more than fifteen years of experience touring & recording with many leading Jazz Artist, Latin Bands, Urban Artists & World Music bands. Educator, owner and director of Moved by Music Ireland.
