Event Description

Debut performance of ChoiceCuts recording project MåsExödus supported by Department of Culture & Tourism and featuring some of Ireland’s most talented musicians.

MåsExödus from ChoiceCuts’ very own Mark Murphy and musical director Max Zaska explores modern contemporary jazz sounds.

Wanting to create something that reflected no events or shows and the downtime of Covid, Mark and Max worked all summer on blending a hot pot of recordings that will be performed live at Cork Jazz and will be featured on 2 releases this winter also.

Recorded in Hellfire studios, the album and live show share a love for soul and jazz music across the board that has been championed by ChoiceCuts over the past 20 years throughout Ireland and further afield.

This debut live performance is the fruit of a summer of writing, rehearsing, recording, crafting and mixing something special while in lockdown with support from the LPSS 2021 initiative from Catherine Martin and Department of Culture.

Featuring on the album are long-time collaborators and ChoiceCuts kin Hypnotic Brass Ensemble. With special guests featuring throughout the show, the debut band will make their live debut at Cork Jazz 2021.

The show will be 90 mins of brand-new original material. The inclusion of Hypnotic Brass Ensemble as the featured brass section solidifies this as something very special indeed.

Each night will host a bedrock of musicians and very special guests.

Special feature – Hypnotic Brass Ensemble

Hypnotic Brass Ensemble are seven brothers from the south side of Chicago.

Together they have toured throughout Europe, Asia, Australia, Africa and South America playing with everyone from Prince to Mos Def, Mick Jones (The Clash) and Damon Albarn (Blur, Gorillaz). They’ve performed at Coachella, WOMAD AU, Jazz at Lincoln Center, The Sydney Opera House and Carnegie Hall.

The documentary film Brothers Hypnotic explores their music, work ethic, life and experience of being raised by their jazz legend father Phil Cohran. After screening in major cities and festivals, it aired on PBS. Their song “War” was featured in the blockbuster hit movie Hunger Games.
