Chuck Stewart Exhibition for the first time in Ireland with special performances from harpist Brandee Younger.

We’re delighted to host the We Got The Jazz - Chuck Stewart Exhibition for the first time in Ireland with special performances from harpist Brandee Younger. Join us for an immersive visual experience that showcases the wonderful photography of Chuck Stewart accompanied by live music in the beautiful setting of St. Peter's Church.

CHUCK STEWART - an African American fine art photographer, is the most important music photographer of the twentieth century. Period. He was the only photographer in the room when John Coltrane recorded the iconic A Love Supreme.

Every music label & top producers of the fifties and sixties counted Chuck as one of their go to photographers, his photographs have graced over 2,000+ album covers, including the cover of Nina Simone’s first album “Little Girl Blue.”

With a 60+ year career, every jazz luminary & other musical legends, at one time or other found themselves in front of Chuck’s lens. Many considered him a friend. A young Quincy Jones beckons before a studio orchestra, to Pharoah Sanders assuming a spiritual pose, Maya Angelou singing Calypso, before she was a world-renowned author, Sarah Vaughan looking after Jazz Trumpeter Thad Jones’ young son Bruce, in the studio as the music plays. The extraordinary, intimate jazz of the later half of the twentieth century.

BRANDEE YOUNGER - A leading voice of the harp today, performer, composer, educator, and concert curator Brandee Younger defies genres and labels. She has performed and recorded with artists including Pharoah Sanders, Ravi Coltrane, Jack DeJohnette, Charlie Haden, Common, John Legend, The Roots, Stevie Wonder, and Lauryn Hill. In 2019, she released her fourth solo album, Soul Awakening, and her original composition “Hortense” was featured in the Netflix Concert-Documentary, Beyoncé: Homecoming. This same year, Ms. Younger was selected to perform her original music as a featured performer for Quincy Jones and Steve McQueen’s’ “Soundtrack of America.” Ms. Younger’s ability to seamlessly inject the harp into arrangements and venues where it has historically been overlooked is a testament to her deep love for and exemplary command of the instrument.

“No harpist thus far has been more capable of combining all of the modern harp traditions — from Salzedo, through Dorothy Ashby, through Alice Coltrane — with such strength, grace and commitment.”
