Event Description

Pianist and composer Sultan Stevenson burst onto the London jazz scene in 2020 with a rapidly developing artistic voice, having previously studied under the tuition of renowned jazz musicians such as Julian Joseph, Gary Crosby, Simon Purcell and Robert Mitchell. He is a graduate of The Guildhall School of Music and alumni of both Julian Joseph Jazz Academy and Tomorrow’s Warriors. Sultan cites McCoy Tyner, Kenny Kirkland, Geri Allen and Ahmad Jamal as some of his biggest inspirations.

In 2022, Stevenson recorded his debut album ‘Faithful One’ with his trio (Jacob Gryn and Joel Waters). The album earned Sultan a signing from Whirlwind Recordings and has received much critical acclaim. Sultan launched ‘Faithful One’ to a sold-out audience at The Jazz Café and has since been touring the album internationally.

Sultan went on to win the Parliamentary Jazz Media Award for ‘Best Newcomer’ in 2023 and is considered one of the brightest stars of his generation.
