Sara Oschlag is touring Ireland with her Brighton-based trio featuring a few different, local chord players, making new connections to the Brighton jazz scene. For this one, Hugh has been hand-picked & we are very excited to host this uber-swingin’ quartet. Join us as we go journeying with this exciting new collaboration - we promise it’s gonna be a good hang.

Darren Beckett (drums)
won a prestigious Bass Ireland Award as a teenager, leaving the emerald isle to study jazz in New York, where he resided for 21 years. Across his career, he has played drums everywhere from Carnegie Hall in New York to the Royal Albert Hall in London. He’s performed on over 50 albums recording with notable names like Brandon Flowers, Daniel Lanois, Madeleine Peyroux Lee Konitz and Kenny Wheeler. Over the years, Darren has worked with Lauryn Hill of The Fugees, James Hunter, jazz pianist Aaron Parks Played festivals all over the world from Austin City Limits to Montreux to NH7 in India. His current main gigs today are with Brandon Flowers (The Killers), and American jazz singer Madeleine Peyroux, whom he toured with for over ten years. Darren co-wrote the lead single ‘Can’t Deny My Love’ on Brandon Flowers’ number one charting second solo album, ‘The Desired Effect’. He currently teaches drums at ACM London, and has been touring the US and Europe with Indie darlings Amen Dunes this year, also spending part of the year recording in LA, Austin and New York with various artists and film composers. Darren’s band Ambulance ltd recently reformed to play some shows. In New York. Darren was recently featured in Modern Drummer magazine ‘On The Beat’ 

He is endorsed by Canopus drums, Paiste cymbals, Vic Firth Drum sticks, Aquarian Drum heads, Protection Racket Drum cases, and Reflexx pads. Since moving to the UK in 2016 he’s been a regular on the London jazz scene playing Ronnie Scott’s and the 606 club, playing with Jason Rebello, Gilad Atzmon, and Alan Barnes. And active on the studio scene in London and Dublin.

Hugh Buckley
is a Dublin born and based, self-taught guitarist, composer, arranger, educator and author. He has performed throughout Europe, the U.S., Argentina and China, working as a sideman and also leading his own groups.

Dan Sheppard
has been working the UK jazz scene for the past 25 years. After moving to Brighton in 1994 to pursue a career in jazz bass, he quickly became a regular fixture on the local scene. After paying his dues with such fine players as Alan Barnes, Bobby Wellins and Jim Mullen he was offered a residency at Ronnie Scott's with Little Jimmy Scott's visiting American band. Since then Dan has recorded with Bobby Durham (Oscar Peterson's drummer) and is now a regular fixture on the London scene, playing with Nigel Price, Steve Fishwick and many others.

Sara Oschlag
the Danish jazz singer has made a name for herself on the south coast of England, working in & leading bands for the last 15 years all over the UK - an effort which has seen her earn over two million views on YouTube. She has been hailed a ‘musician’s singer’ due to her wonderful way of using dynamics, texture & rhythm to sing the songs. An intelligent interpreter of songs in the jazz tradition, her influences include Sarah Vaughan, Carmen McRae, Ella Fitzgerald, Anita O’Day, Shirley Horn, Nancy Wilson & Eddie Jefferson, to name few. Sara’s honest stage presence, expressive voice and effortless sense of swing have made her a firm favorite with musicians and the public alike.
