David Lyttle Trio / The Saffron Trio

16-year-old Strandhill saxophonist Fraser Gaine is set to present his second night of jazz featuring his mentor, MOBO nominated drummer David Lyttle, at the Railway Bar this Wednesday. Fraser will also perform his new band, The Saffron Trio, which features exceptional local teenaged talents Sam Purcell on drums, and Nils Kavanagh on keyboard.

David Lyttle first received national attention in the band of Irish jazz giant Louis Stewart and he has gone on to bring his projects around the world, recently including China, Russia and the U.S.. He collaborated with many of today's jazz icons and he lists Finland, Lebanon, Israel, Egypt, Thailand. Vietman, Malaysia, Australia, Portugal and Jamaica in his autumn/winter itinerary alone. David has been a performer and tutor on the Sligo Jazz Project since 2009 and he returns with his trio featuring Northern Irish guitarist of the moment Joseph Leighton, who is 22 and from Derry, and the exceptional bassist Jack Kelly, who is 21 and from Ballyclare. Both have been mentored by David from an early age and are recent recipients of prestigious awards from Jazzlife Alliance, a not-for-profit Arts Council-funded organisation under David's artistic direction.

The Saffron Trio is an upcoming local group, blazing their way into the Irish jazz scene. The group features young Sligo talent including Nils Kavanagh on keyboards, Fraser Gaine on saxophone and the incredible Sam Purcell on drums. The compositions of the jazz ensemble include music from a multitude of genres, ranging from traditional jazz to funk fusion and (almost) everywhere in between. All past participants of the Sligo Jazz Project, these exceptional young musicians gel seamlessly together, creating music of the highest standard.
