About Jim Doherty
Pianist Jim Doherty has been a key figure on the Irish jazz scene for the last half century. As well as leading his own award-winning groups, both at home and abroad, Jim was a lifelong collaborator of the great guitarist Louis Stewart. The two released the critically acclaimed duo album, Tunes, in 2014, one of Stewart's last recordings.
Jim is also responsible for many of the more familiar RTÉ title tunes over the past number of decades and was musical director of the Late Late Show for many years. He has written music for numerous theatrical productions including the Abbey Theatre's first musical, Innish in 1975. Jim is the father of the actor and playwright Mark Doherty ('Trad', 'A Film With Me In It') and the Perrier Award-winning comic David O'Doherty.

He has been described as "extraordinary" (Irish Times, 2001), "something of a genius...[with] a world reputation amongst saxophonists" (Irish Times, 1999) and a musician whose "playing manages to be simultaneously passionate and gentle, romantic and elegiac." (Sunday Independent, 2001) Musicians with whom he has collaborated include Van Morrison, Freddie Hubbard, Dave McKenna, Harry Allen, Lew Soloff, Guy Barker, Jiggs Wigham, Bob Dylan, Georgie Fame, Jon Hendricks, Carlos Santana, Barry Manilow, and Elvis Costello. Recording credits include Van Morrison, James Williams, Barry Manilow, Riverdance, Lord of the Dance and Elmer Bernstein.
Myles Drennan grew up under the mentorship of Irish jazz icon Louis Stewart which partly accounts for not only his high technical abilities but his interpretive capabilities and desire to take the music to new places. Myles hails from a musical family and reportedly learnt much from falling asleep under the family piano. His father, Tony Drennan, was one of the pioneers of the Dublin jazz scene and Myles also holds a special role, a musician that all Irish jazz musicians respect and admire. Myles has played with a who’s who of Irish musicians and is rightly regarded as one of Ireland’s great jazz musicians.
