Event Description

Take me to the Alley- A Night of Gregory Porter will be performed by 25 year old Irish jazz singer Bob McQuaid, known as Bobby Mc.The Meath musician created his new show in recognition of the charismatic jazz singer he cites as one of his music heroes.

Bobby Mc has been performing from a young age and aged 18, he was a lead vocalist in the German Tour of a show called Irish Dreams. In the same year, Porter’s Liquid Spirit album was released, which went on to win the Grammy for Best Jazz Vocal Album.

The tribute show, which features a full live band, sees the young Meath man perfectly capture Porter’s earthy brand of jazz, soul, and gospel. Bobby Mc’s take on his hero’s beautifully melodic music includes treasured classics and fan favourites such as ‘Hey Laura’, ‘Water under Bridges’, ‘Be Good’, ‘On my Way to Harlem’ and ‘Don’t Lose Your Steam’.

Since graduating university in 2017 with a first class honours degree in Actuarial Maths, Bob Mc Quaid has performed full-time with his swing band, Bobby Mc and The Dukes. The energetic six-piece create spectacular live shows with an exciting blend of swing and jazz featuring music and songs by artists like Frank Sinatra, Michael Bublé, Nat King Cole and Ray Charles, as well as jazz icon Gregory Porter.

From his first album ‘Water’ to his most recent release ‘Nat King Cole and me’, come and enjoy a night full of Gregory’s best songs.

As well as all the hits, you’ll also hear some of his unique covers that he has performed over the years. Accompanied by a full live band, Irish Jazz singer Bobby Mc will pay tribute to Porter with his own take on this beautifully melodic music. The show debuted in The Sugar Club back in August to rave reviews. It was also performed in The Purty Kitchen in October and for it’s third performance, the show is coming to the home of Jazz and Blues in Dublin, Arthur’s.
