Celebrating one of the most prolific composers in jazz, The Quiet Birdmen reinvigorate the timeless and charming music of Jimmy Van Heusen. Featuring Aleka Potinga on voice, Sidney Dehaen Edge on guitar, Aido Kimura Mooney on bass, and Darragh Groome on drums, the group pays tribute to the masterful works of Van Heusen, developing each piece through the unique lens of the quartet's distinct personality.
The group's name is a reference to Van Heusen's secondary passion, aviation. He was a member of the secretive group of pilots, known as the Quiet Birdmen, and also worked part-time as a test pilot. Drawing from this theme, The Quiet Birdmen illustrate a journey of balance between serenity and turbulence, through the scope of improvised music.
