Acclaimed as one of the most important jazz albums of all time, John Coltrane’s ‘A Love Supreme’ suite will be performed in its entirety in Arthurs, on November 28th, by a group featuring some of Ireland’s finest jazz musicians and - making this event even more special - one of Europe’s greatest jazz drummers, the legendary Eric Ineke.
Eric’s fabled career has included work with countless jazz giants such as Hank Mobley, Dexter Gordon, Woody Shaw, Johnny Griffin, and Lee Konitz. Joining Eric will be Michael Buckley on saxophone, Leopoldo Osio on piano, and Ronan Guilfoyle on bass - three musicians who were involved the last time this suite was performed.
Released in January 1965 by Impulse! Records, A Love Supreme became one of the most acclaimed jazz albums of all time and has been widely regarded as Coltrane's masterpiece. It was also quite popular for a jazz record, selling about 500,000 copies by 1970, and has been the source of endless discussion, research, and of course enjoyment for almost sixty years.
The programme will include other music by Coltrane, culminating in the full performance of ‘A Love Supreme’. A great opportunity to see and hear a highly complex yet much-loved album brought to life.
Arthur's is the nearest pub on the route to The Guinness Storehouse, one of the city's foremost tourist attractions. It is popular both with locals and tourists. Naturally it has the freshest pint of Guinness in all of Ireland.
