Event Description

The John Moriarty / Myles Drennan Quartet is one of the leading contemporary jazz quartets in the country. Both Moriarty and Drennan grew up under the mentorship of Irish jazz icon Louis Stewart which partly accounts for not only their high technical abilities but their interpretive capabilities and desire to take the music to new places.

John Moriarty is one of Ireland's foremost jazz guitarists, career highlights include performing and recording with many greats including Ronnie Cuber, Bobby Watson, Eric Reed, Bill Carrothers. His 2013 release, 'Echoes' received great reviews internationally, and showcases his individual voice on the instrument. Myles Drennan hails from a musical family and reportedly learnt much from falling asleep under the family piano. His father, Tony Drennan, was one of the pioneers of the Dublin jazz scene and Myles also holds a special role, a musician that all Irish jazz musicians respect and admire.

This evenings repertoire is drawn from carefully selected jazz standards as well as some new and original music. Completing the quartet is the top class rhythm section of Damian Evans and Shane O'Donovan, who cemented their locked in style over countless Thursday nights playing in Isotope together.
