Event Description
The Córas Trio reinvents the spontaneous. Deconstructed Irish traditional melodies emerge from blissful, otherworldly textures that foreground fiddle, guitar and percussion with transcendental electronics, suspending elements of collective improvisation with seisiún-style playfulness.
Leading lights in a fresh wave of Irish musicians exploring links between the ancient and the 21st century, Belfast’s Córas Trio is steeped in free improvisation, electronic music, and the city’s ‘seisiún’ or session scene. Comprising Kevin McCullagh (fiddle, electronics), Paddy McKeown (guitar, electronics) and Conor McAuley (drums), the trio is part of a new creative wave of musicians based in Belfast exploring how traditional music relates to contemporary experience. Irish traditional music is taken to the outer reaches, where the spirits of Schoenberg and Sun Ra play with Seán Ó Riada and Tommie Potts.
This Dublin performance sees the trio play music from their highly acclaimed eponymous debut album, as well as new material scheduled for a 2025 release.
Conor McAuley - drums, percussion
