Event Description

Join us on May 9th for our second year partnering with Culture Date with Dublin 8!

This year we are excited to present our Live Podcast & Concert Series at Dublin Liberties Distillery on Friday May 9th featuring ALEKA POTINGA

Aleka Potinga is one of the rising vocalists on the Dublin jazz scene. For Culture Date with Dublin 8, she will perform "The New Standard Real Book", a trail-blazing set of music featuring original compositions and jazz standards written by pioneering female composers. She has assembled a stellar band with some of the most well known names in Irish jazz with Chris Guilfoyle on guitar, Barry Donohue on bass and Shane O'Donovan on Drums. Together they will bring a night of high energy, swinging jazz alongside thought provoking original compositions from an array of celebrated female composers.

More info:

Our Live podcast introduces a female - identifying artist to an audience in a podcast format; an informal conversation hosted by Jennifer McMahon (founder/ director of Irish Women in Jazz). The live conversation allows for interaction from the audience and helps to build a rapport between both sides of the stage. The artist then takes the stage with their band to perform music of their own creation and / or from the jazz canon. The podcast is available online at later date.

Doors open at 7pm, music begins at 7.30pm

Who are Irish Women in Jazz?

Est. 2022, Irish Women in Jazz was created to empower, support and elevate female and female identifying jazz musicians in Ireland. It is also a place to connect and commune with fellow musicians, take part in educational and professional opportunities and advance a more balanced representation across the scene in terms of gender. Its focus is on artists and audience alike; cultivating a space where both can participate in musical events that inspire and engage. As an Arts Council funded organisation, now for the second year, we are excited to bring this innovative live experience to the community in Dublin 8.

Culture Date with Dublin 8 is an annual neighbourhood festival, held every May which offers a host of events, activities, concerts, walking tours, workshops and more across Dublin 8's top cultural landmarks. This year's Culture Date with Dublin 8 will be taking place from Wednesday 7th - Sunday 11th May, 2025.

Dublin Liberties Distillery is Dublin 8’s latest whiskey attraction. Housed in a 400-year old building that was once a mill and a tannery, it’s now a working distillery, where master distiller Darryl McNally has been creating some unique flavours inspired by The Liberties’ rich distilling tradition. Location: 33 Mill Street, Dublin, IE D08 V221

This event is kindly sponsored by Ashling Hotel, who are offering dinner for 2 to a lucky ticket holder! Winner announced on the night.

This event is supported by the Irish Arts Council
