Event Description

When you're swinging, swing some more ! - Thelonious Monk (1917-1982) is one of the most original and inventive pianists and composers of the jazz tradition. Originally influenced by stride pianists like James P. Johnson and Fats Waller he emerged in the bebop era in the 1940's as the house pianist at Mintons Playhouse becoming one of the most influential figures in modern jazz.

Throughout the 1950's and 1960's Monk led a quartet that recorded some of the most brilliant albums of the era for labels like Prestige, Riverside and Columbia and composed a body of work that is still being studied to this day.

The Shuffle Boil Quartet gathers four of Irelands most well known and experienced jazz musicians to explore the repertoire of Monk, one of the 20th Century's most unique composers

Steve Welsh - saxophone. Cathal Roche - saxophone. Neil Ó Lochlainn - bass. Dan Walsh - drums.
