Event Description
The final night of the TrioTrioTrioPiano Festival in Arthur's Bar, Thomas St. sees two more piano trios coming together to wow the jazz lovers of Dublin on Saturday November 18th from 9pm.
Kicking off the evening will be The Myles Drennan Trio. Myles is a rare combination of prodigious natural talent, instinctive jazz sophistication and self-effacing modesty. Drennan has been a byword for excellence among Irish musicians for more than a decade, both as drummer and pianist. He favours the latter here in this piano trio that has evolved from a recent residency in Bewley's Café Theatre, and which boasts an empathic rhythm section in bassist Neil O'Loghlen and drummer Sean Carpio, with standards associated with Coltrane, Evans, Davis and Hancock as a further stimulus.
Ivan Paduart by Edouard Janssens Their set is followed by The Ivan Paduart Trio who will be drawing the TrioTrioTrioPiano Festival to a close.
After a start in the field of jazz-fusion, leading his own group Aftertouch in the eighties, pianist-composer Ivan Paduart sees his main activity in what can be described as modern acoustic jazz.
Ivan became, in a few years, one of the west-Europe's foremost jazzmen.
With the unavoidable influences of Bill Evans, Fred Hersch and Herbie Hancock, pianist-composer Ivan Paduart has forged the individual sound and style which has earned recognition and appreciation from players like Richard Galliano, Tom Harrell, Toots Thielemans, Manu Katché, Philip Catherine, Bert Joris, Richard Bona, Claude Nougaro, Bob Malach, Peter King, Nigel Hitchcock, Tim Armacost, Sylvain Luc, Toon Roos, Rick Margitza, Deborah Brown and everyone else he has made music with over the years.
He is joined in the final set of the TrioTrioTrioPiano Festival by drummer Hans van Oosterhout who performs regularly with the Ivan Paduart trio, but also with such renowned musicmakers as Richard Galliano, Philip Catherine-4, Jacques Schwarz-Bart, Harmen Fraanje, Enrico Pieranunzi-3, Cor Bakker, Bert van den Brink-3, Vaya Con Dios, Mona Lisa Overdrive, Gino Vannelli and Dee Dee Bridgewater.
With these groups Van Oosterhout travels all over Europe and performs in the USA, Japan, Canada, Korea and Europe.. Both critics and fellow musicians appreciate Hans for his great flexibility and ability to adapt himself to almost any musical situation. Always offering musicality and sensitivity as well as enthusiasm and an open mind to music.
The trio is completed by Theo de Jong on bass guitar. De Jong is an allround bass guitar player living in both The Netherlands and Belgium. He plays the solid-body fretted and fretless bass guitar, as well as the acoustic bass guitar. He has worked with a broad range of renowned national and international artists like Toots Thielemans, Trijntje Oosterhuis, Batida, Ekseption, Ilse DeLange, Karel Boehlee, Toon Roos, Gino Vannelli, Kaz Lux, Ivan Paduart, Maurane, Kayak, Philip Catherine, Dado Moroni, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Peter Herbolzheimer Big Band, Bobby Malach. He has taught bass guitar and ensemble at the conservatories of Amsterdam and Utrecht since 1985 and regularly travels around Europe to do workshops and masterclasses.
