Legendary Irish Jazz Guitarist Tommy Halferty has been performing & composing for the last 35 years and in that time has gained a wealth of experience performing with musicians from all over the world such as Lee Konitz, Benny Golson, Seamus Blake, Norma Winstone and many more….Born in Derry, Northern Ireland, Halferty began his musical career in the late 70s taking Jazz Guitar lessons with Louis Stewart, a worldclass jazz musician. Some of his earliest appearances playing publicly were with bands such as `Jump' - a jazz-fusion group and later on `Nunn' - a trio of flute, double bass and guitar.
In '84, Tommy had the opportunity to play with the great Czech double bass player, George Mraz, as part of the Jazz Fusion '. Later Tommy recorded with Mraz for the R.T.E. Radio show, "All that Jazz and Blues". The following year, Halferty gave jazz workshops at the Cork Jazz Festival, playing with the Great American alto sax player, Lee Konitz and with the great French pianist, Martial Solal. In Dublin Jazz Festival '89, Tommy performed duos with the great American guitarist, John Abercrombie. Followed by duos by the English guitarist, John Etheridge, who worked with Soft Machine and the great French violinist Stephane Grapelli. Halferty continues to be one of the stalwarts of the improvised music scene in Ireland and Internationally.
His jazz guitar trio is completed, by the feted rhythm section of Dave Redmond on Double Bass and Kevin Brady on Drums, both of which have been recording and touring internationally together for over twenty years. The Tommy Halferty Trio have established themselves as Ireland’s leading jazz guitar trio. To date they have been performing Halferty's energetic and original compositions which feature a blend of improvised music, swing, rock & blues.

Founded in 1979 to provide much needed music school facilities in south Dublin, Newpark Music Centre now caters for over 1000 students and is one of the largest private music schools in Dublin. While the emphasis is on learning music for enjoyment, students and choirs from the Music Centre have been extremely successful in competitions throughout the country. All exam syllabuses are covered up to and including diploma level and several specialised courses not available in other music schools are offered.
