The Sofa Sessions is delighted to welcome back one of the south east’s most respected jazz musicians, London-born pianist Carole Nelson, with her powerful trio featuring bassist Cormac O Brien and drummer Dominic Mullan.
The trio have been playing and recording together for over five years now and during that time they have attracted widespread national and international critical acclaim and gained a reputation for their spacious, optimistic sound. Their third studio album, Night Vision, released earlier this year, was described by Irish Times music critic Tony Clayton-Lea as 'a record of blissful opportunities'.
About Carole Nelson
Carole Nelson is one of Ireland's most highly-regarded jazz musicians. Pianist, saxophonist, vocalist, songwriter, teacher, producer and composer, her award-winning songs with Dublin-based jazz group Zrazy have earned her an Irish Gold Disc, a USA Glama award and many other plaudits. The respected jazz magazine, All About Jazz, has called Carole ‘a singular voice’, and the Irish Times has called her ‘one of the more original voices in contemporary Irish jazz’.
Sofa Sessions curator and Irish Times jazz critic Cormac Larkin called the Carole Nelson Trio ‘spacious, meditative and open-hearted…tapped into the spacious European piano trio tradition of Tord Gustavsen and Marcin Wasilewski'.
