On this week's edition I celebrate the hot Irish Summer with a selection of summer-themed Jazz also suitable for a rainy day cheering you up with the music of Dave Brubeck, Louis Armstrong, Art Blakey, Wolfgang Schlueter, Dave Holland's Aziza, Marius Neset, Keith Jarrett and others.
A great mix of big band and a nod in the direction of classical influences in jazz, with the first time on Hot Box, tracks from Maria Schneider’s multi-award winning masterpiece Data Lords. And the very last piece of the jigsaw puzzle that enveloped the Jazz Worms.
The Carole Nelson Trio released their second album Arboreal in February 2020, which has since received glowing acclaim, including the Irish Times top ten albums of the year and All About Jazz Magazine Album of the year 2020. The Carole Nelson Trio are now going on an 8-date tour around Ireland in August / September. Ticket numbers will be limited so do book early!
On this edition you can enjoy "a Breeze of Jamaica" and you can dance to the rhythms and groove of Caribbean-and-Jamaican influenced Jazz by one of the pioneering and innovative voices of this genre, with music by Monty Alexander, Ernest Ranglin, the Jazz Jamaica All Stars, Courtney Pine, Lenny Hibbert, Andy Hamilton, Joe Harriott, the Jazz Warriors and many others.
Friday, July 23rd, 2021 - ‘Fire & Rain’ is the latest single release from Jazz singer Bobby Mc. Based in Drumcondra, Bobby Mc is a young, exciting Jazz artist on the Irish music scene. Bobby first appeared on the professional music scene in Dublin at just 16, guided by his parents who have been playing for 30 years, he started as the halftime act. As a young adult, he took his first steps on his own into the music world and would soon be seen on TV stations and Theatres alike. His musical influences include Gregory Porter, Jamie Cullum, Carole King and James Taylor. Bobby’s version of ‘Fire & Rain’ is a unique rendition that brings a jazz and swing style to the track.
On this edition I'd like to explore the music and vision of Charlie Parker and Lester Young, two different figures in the history of Jazz, who also had very much in common and influenced generations of young musicians, exploring
PARKER OR PRES, or both and all magic inbetween and beyond.
