Cory Wong announce a headline show at The Button Factory, Dublin 27th October 2021

Grammy nominated American guitarist, bassist, songwriter Cory Wong has announced he will perform live in Dublin The Button Factory, 27th October 2021. Tickets are available to purchase from Tickets.ie and Ticketmaster.ie €25.00 includes booking fee from Friday 26th March at 10 am.

You instinctually hum a tune in order to get pumped up in the morning, for fuel on the treadmill, to soundtrack your commute, or as the pre-game to a big night out. As much as he treasures his roles as a guitarist, composer, and producer, Cory Wong fashions himself “a hype man, first and foremost. Living up to this classification, he slings a Stratocaster and hurls “dad jokes” from the stage with the same panache, poise, and power.

Upcoming Release 'Navigator' by Karl Clews

The official release date of Karl Clews second album of original material for bass, entitled Navigator, is due out on 2nd April 2021!

As the title suggests, this album sees Karl exploring further the concept of the bass as a solo and lead instrument, with more expansive compositions drawing on a wider range of influences, from African to South American styles, from jazz, funk and fusion to hip-hop, and a wider tonal and textural palette, incorporating piccolo and tenor basses. With the exception of guest spots on a handful of tracks by Galway musicians Bernard Huvé and Adam Daniel on sax, Ciaran Storey on guitar and Richie Dittrich on drums, all the sounds on the album are made by basses, and it provides a demonstration of just how versatile - and misunderstood - the modern electric bass can be.

Tales from the far Side 11.03.21 TUBA MAGIC - Remembering Howard Johnson

On this edition I’d like to remember the late great Tuba virtuoso and pioneer Howard Johnson who sadly passed away in January 2021 at the age of 79, remembered here with some of his greatest music as sideman, musical director and leader of his own groups, from his early days with Hank Mobley via his work with Taj Mahal and the Band to his leadership of All Tuba Bands like Gravity and others.

The Hot Box Xtra 4 - Chick Corea 1941-2021

Chick Corea 1941-2021

A Hot Box Xtra checks out the music of one of the most important musicians in jazz. Sadly, he passed away in February this year aged 79.

A pianist, composer and bandleader who visited all corners of the music box from Hispanic to Fusion, from Jazz to Classical. Chick Corea collected an amazing 23 Grammy Awards over his career - probably more than any other musician - delivering almost 90 recorded albums during his 60 plus years as a professional. He had played concerts in Ireland on several occasions.

Footnote: Since this programme was recorded, the 2021 Grammys were announced March 14, and Chick Corea received posthumously two more awards, for Best Improvised Jazz Solo (All Blues - included in this tribute show) and the album Trilogy 2 in which it featured.
